  • Proposal Description & Rationale*
We're propose two changes: 1) Dropping the one auxiliary course requirement in the AE major: MATH 132 (Introduction to Statistics). Why? Many students, particularly transfer students, come to Fort Lewis having already completed a college-level math course. Thus, in the interest of streamlining our degree (something Provost Nixon encouraged every department to do last year, which we didn't do at the time), we're dropping it (even though some AE faculty, philosophically speaking, wish we could continue to require it; however, we agree as a department that it's not absolutely essential). 2) Adding AE 441 to the AE Major Electives under the "Outdoor Skills and Management" courses. It was created as a part of the Snow and Avalanche Certificate (which just launched this academic year) and wasn't added to the AE Major Electives then (when it should've been).
Why are you proposing this? Be concise, but thorough. If you are changing the courses composing your program, list the old courses alongside their replacements. If this change alters the required credit hours in your program, list the previous requirement alongside the new.
